Anyone know why

Anyone know why this camera might start out black a lot of times? Do I need to adjust something for it in the app? Is there something wrong with this brand new camera? Wifi issue? though, the other camera does not do this.

Not really sure, it appears it starts recording before the internal camera activates.
It’s not a Wi-Fi issue, because even if it lost Wi-Fi it would still record onto its internal memory.
Check to see if the firmware is up to date on that camera. You’ll find it in the cameras settings under General and About Device.

Hello, I was having a similar issue in my new S230. I played with the settings when I first got it. When I hooked mine to wifi it did have 2 software updates. So that may be your issue. There is a page and a button in there under the general page tab where to find that information. Hope it helps!

Thank you. I did wonder about the wi-fi. I did as you suggested and checked for updates and it seems to be good there.

Thank you. I will check settings and updates again tomorrow. I may try removing and reinstalling the camera next.

Hi again…to me it looks like your night vision is turned on. Check that setting. Maybe get into that page and turn on the light symbol manually but it with your pointer and turn it on and off a few times and see if that helps any. My one camera was stuck into night vision and that is how I unstuck it, now it works like it should. This is from my S230 camera.

Your camera is not starting in black out mode, it’s in night vision. There’s a setting to remove it out of night vision. You have a IR setting, a color setting and a black out mode that you can set. Check those settings. If you want a color photo when something is captured you need to set it for that in the options.

My first guess would be the settings for night vision may be set to blackout as the default and needs to be changed to infrared or color based on your preference.

What’s this blackout mode? I only see three options black and white infrared LEDs, color night vision with spotlight, and Turn off _ turn off IR LED and spotlight at night.
Which would also record in color if there is enough ambient light outside.

It appears the OP @cjk41 has B&W Night Vision selected, which is fine and it shouldn’t cause this issue. I think the camera is at fault, if it’s still occurs after re-adding the camera back or changing night vision settings then I would return the camera for a replacement.

It takes a minute to register it’s kind of like me in the morning before I’ve had my coffee!

You are correct, I was just thinking of the off option as blackout, meaning no infrared being on when not in live vew.

It’s when the night vision light turns on but I have no idea how or if you can adjust it
