I see something like that in my backyard also tell me that’s not a giant rat

A rat that big would be nightmare fuel.

It’s a opossum and they are scary close up what teeth do they have…

They are marsupials and mostly harmless, unless they’re threatened.

They are very needed in nature. Harmless unless threatened.

Perhaps he’s just exploring a neighbors yard. An opossums range is about 50 acres.

Thanks, but I see him almost every other day… He seems to be fixated to my property

I read that online too, still nervous seeing him on camera

Hope he is harmless too

awww

They are but don’t trigger them haha

They are. Harmless and they are very good to have around. They keep nuisance critters like mice populations down if not eliminate them. They can be carriers of rabies but they actually do not get it rabies scientists are still baffled about their immune system to not just rabies but to many diseases. I feed mine in the very cold winter months here in Wisconsin to help in their survival as they do not live very long maybe 2 to 4 years depending on the source. I think they are fascinating; but then again I think all animals except humans are fascinating and I try to help them out whenever I can. After all we are the ones that messed up their lives and ours with the concrete jungle. Sorry, I grew up on a farm and the way we are going, none of them will be left either and we will have to depend on other countries for food. Lol what a way to bring the U.S. to it’s knees. I bet no one is seeing this is coming. It will after my time but the last of the farmers of today, as they will have no choice but to sell their land. They will still have the knowledge to grow food on a very small amount of land to feed their family and pass down this knowledge to their children.

Lol your gentle soul and kindness… It’s sad to think what we have lost as a society taken by the industrialization and globalization, and most recently Artificial Intelligence…

Opossums Are very curious critters. Harmless and yes they unfortunately will faint (as an unwanted reflex) if threatened or hiss and hope you leave them alone. If they do happen to faint, their bodies emit an awful odor of rotting meat. Hoping what is “trying” to eat them will not as they smell rotten. They can NOT get rabid as they have a gene to prevent that and another plus, they eat tic’s! Which is another good reason to allow them some of your back yard. If you ever have the privilege to see a mother with her babes on her back (8-12) it’s a treat you will never forget! Unless you decide to go out at night and try to corner one, you should never have an issue. They will run if hearing noises. Yes, they are not the cutest but so homely they really are adorable!

The US is one of the planet’s largest exporters of food. I live in California which is where most of your veggies come from when it’s 0 degrees in WI. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: What happened was the Industrial Revolution where we became able to mass produce food with mechanized agriculture

Thank you for sharing the fun facts about opossum! Indeed cute and harmless creature :ghost:

Thanks, it is extended to humans also, well that is until they stab me in the back. Lol I am all for change and advancement as long as it is done properly. In the military when computers were in its infancy there wasn’t any classes to learn how to use them. It was here you go figure it out. It was a good thing for me that I like to learn hands on. Lol I love to learn new things just not in a classroom.
