I would consider adding another camera, in plain view there by the stairs. May deter more people, or at least capture their faces to help police identify them.

I am so sorry about that. My advice go on Amazon or AliExpress and you can get a porch pirate weapon. It is a fake box that has a 12 gauge blank so whenever they pick it up, it goes off and scares the shit out of them and it makes for a very funny video. Sorry about your kids books though.
