My eufy pan and tilt cameras, mounted on the corner of a building, behave similarly to your camera. They track distant subjects well, but as soon as the action moves into the area directly beneath the camera, tracking stops entirely.
Adding a HomeBase (with added intelligence) doesnât resolve the problem, nor does adjusting Motion Detection settings to All Other Motions. Iâve tested this across multiple camerasânew and oldâwith repeatable results.
I can manually replicate the pan and tilt movement that my cameras should follow using the eufy app, so the issue doesnât appear to be caused by a mechanical limitation. It seems instead that the Eufy 4G LTE Cam S330 and SoloCam S340 lack the intelligence to pan once the tilt reaches its lower limit.
As a workaround, I tried installing eufy Motion Sensors on the blind side of the cameraâs view with the aim being to trigger movement and force the camera to follow the action. Unfortunately, eufy Motion Sensors have their own inherent limitations, and this approach hasnât succeeded so far.
I plan to test again with a fresh installation. If the problem persists, Iâll be raising this as a formal support issue with eufy, as it could be a fundamental flaw in their tracking algorithm.
Thank you for replying as not many S340 owners have responded or reported this annoying issue. This is a pain in the A and does cause some security concerns as this model was advertised as having no blindspots.
The A I tracking has failed numerous times. It tracks better if the person is moving at a very slow pace. But this can also fail.
the recording when turning isnât smooth
Your S340 camera installation is in the exact position as the S340 promotional poster. Yet fails to track.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I can manually replicate the pan and tilt movements that my PTZ cameras should follow using the Eufy app. This confirms that the issue isnât mechanical. It seems instead that the Eufy 4G LTE Cam S330 and SoloCam S340 lack the intelligence to pan left or right once the tilt reaches its lower limit.
By comparison, professional PTZ cameras from brands such as Axis, Hikvision and Dahua use smarter, predictive tracking that works magic with superior infrared/radar systems.
Despite this, Eufyâs marketing is very clear. The SoloCam S340 is not a âcheapâ camera and is promoted as providing â360° Guardian, No Blind Spots.â
Their Australian website states:
âSay goodbye to blind spots with full home coverage.â
âWith 360° pan and 70° tilt, there are no blind spots.â
âEliminates blindspots with 3K AI dual cameras.â
Retailers repeat these same claims as selling points.
Itâs completely reasonable for you to have relied on those statements to make your purchasing decision, and to be frustrated when the real-world performance of the SoloCam S340 doesnât match the promise â especially after having mounted the camera as shown in Eufyâs own promotional photos.
You mentioned that âAI tracking has failed numerous times. It tracks better if the person is moving slowly, but this can also fail.â Try going to Settings âș Pan-Tilt Settings âș Pan and Tilt Speed and changing Rotate Speed to Fast. This might improve tracking a little.
If your mounting height canât be lowered, there will still be a small blind circle directly under the camera. Lowering the camera with a mount could help reduce that area.
Iâll be testing my cameras again after a clean reinstall. If the problem persists, Iâll be raising this issue with the eufy Support Team.
I normally have the Rotation speed set to the highest setting.
I have raised it with Eufy and been back and forth with them for over a month. They have tried to Fob me off with rubbish. In my last email that confirmed that they will be sending over my case over to their R&D team.
We will see what comes from it. I have given them access to over 30 video recordings of the problems I have been having. I suggest you do the same . As the more people who have this problem with the listed Camera models, the better.
I have raised my complaint with Eufy Consumer Support in Australia as you suggested, but am yet to receive a response about this issue. Have you still trying to work out your grievences with Eufy? Are they being helpful?
I have been communicating with them past two months. I have uploaded over 31 videos. A majority of them relate to the performance of the Backyard AI tracking. Iâm in a constant back and forth with their engineering and R&D department at the moment.
The so-called manager who is serving as the mediator. Has been recently replying to me, highlighting that it is either my installation height and the PIR sensor not picking up people due to them being near or underneath the PIR sensor.
The PIR sensor is located on the lowest part of the camera face. The camera tilts downward, making the PIR sensor cover underneath the camera area. The problem is the poor AI tracking that is supposed to centre on people or movement. And what you highlighted regarding the âpredictive trackingâ
People donât approach the area he marked out. They are being detected via PIR and not being tracked correctly. They are trying to fob me off with rubbish
They responded to me, saying the âNo Blind Spotâ is the â360° Guardianâ refers to the cameraâs full visual coverage, not the PIR detection range.
They also increased the recommended installation range by a foot
Original
Original diagram and confirmed correct height. Mine is 7.5 ft high. The same as my front door S340, which tracks better at low angles.
The new diagram I received has a new height ![]()
Iâm still awaiting a reply to my last email sent on Saturday. Letâs see how that goes ![]()
How long has it been since your email was sent?
I sent my request for assistance 2 days ago.
You mentioned, âThey responded to me, saying the âNo Blind Spotâ is the â360° Guardianâ refers to the cameraâs full visual coverage, not the PIR detection range.â Here are my thoughts. This is a security camera featuring AI technology. A fundamental purpose of the device is to track humans and record events. It is unreasonable to assume anyone would be physically watching a screen for potential security breaches 24/7 and track activity of interest manually using the app in order to achieve the promised 360 degree view. The camera must be fit for purpose and the promotional material must not misrepresent any claim a potential consumer might rely upon to make a purchasing decision. I think your complaint to Eufy is justified.
They are in deliberation at the moment.
Have you heard anything back on your end?
I just wanted to share my input. In addition to all the tweaks and workarounds you mentioned, check the physical distance between your S380 and S340. Eufyâs outdoor cameras use their own proprietary 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal to connect to the HomeBase 3, regardless of how strong your home Wi-Fi is. This is an important but often overlooked factor that Eufy doesnât emphasize and many users ignore.
When your HomeBase 3 is under heavy load with too many outdoor cameras connected, your S340 may respond slowly and frequently lose AI tracking due to the delayed access to the HomeBase 3.
I appreciate your input and agree that HomeBase distance and load can affect some Eufy systems. In my case, however, both cameras are within about 13 metres of the HomeBase 3, so I donât believe connectivity is the limiting factor.
Itâs possible Iâm mistaken, but based on Eufyâs own documentation, I understand that the tracking intelligence operates locally within the camera hardware, not through the HomeBase. Eufyâs product pages describe both the SoloCam S340 and 4G LTE Cam S330 as having âon-device AI detection and trackingâ, meaning that motion analysis, classification, and tracking decisions occur on the cameraâs internal processor rather than being handled by the HomeBase 3.
The HomeBase mainly serves as a storage, relay, and coordination hub, while the cameras themselves manage live motion tracking autonomously. That would explain why both the S330 and S340 exhibit identical behaviour whether connected to the HomeBase or operating independently.
If that understanding is correct, then the tracking limitation appears to be algorithmic rather than network-related â the cameras simply donât initiate a compensating pan when the tilt reaches its lower limit.
No, I havenât heard back from Eufy yet regarding the tracking issue.
For now, my workaround is pretty simple: Iâve placed a large potted plant under one camera and a big bin under the other. It forces people to walk around the cameras instead of directly underneath them.
So far, Iâve had limited success with this makeshift solution.
Here are two more clips showing how the 4G LTE Cam S330 and SoloCam S340 fail to track people walking directly beneath the cameras.
Notice how both cameras pan slowly from right to left when a person moves under them, but then fail to follow through with the direction of movement when the tilt is at its lower limit. The tracking performs slightly better when the person walks very slowly, but almost always fails when the person walks at a normal pace.
The official mounting guide is essentially the same as the one Eufy provided you, but it omits the yellow arrow and the words âNot Recommended.â Eufyâs packaging, website, and promotional materials prominently highlight features such as â360° Pan and Tilt with AI Trackingâ and âNo Blind Spots.â However, at no point is the existence of a dead zone directly beneath the camera adequately disclosed or explained in plain language.
Many only discover the blind spots after purchase, when real-world performance falls short of the marketing claims. This omission is material, as these products are marketed to everyday consumers like you and me who cannot reasonably be expected to anticipate the inherent limitations of pan-and-tilt camera designs.
Had I been clearly informed beforehand that movement directly beneath the camera might not be tracked, I would have chosen two fixed-lens bullet cameras or an alternative brand better suited to my needs.
You may gather from this that I am an advocate for full transparency in product advertising.
