Could use Homebridge
Agreed! Or at least, tried that . I already have a Homebridge server, so just added it.
But the Pan & Tilt camera does not allow HomeKit / Homebridge to change Security Modes? It seems that only works with Homebase?
Thanks!
Thx, will try it
geofencing continues to work in only one direction on its own, and you have to open it up to actually have it switch to the other state. So as of this writing it is still not working. The support team escalated to second level and all they did is return back a reply about the weather or the status of my iphone battery. Sad that they didn’t look at the actual problem.
I have checked background refresh, use location always, removed added the app. and still the same behaviour.
Has anyone gotten this to work?
I have been successful using Arlo but would love to see eufy get this working considering the investment made.
if anyone else still have the problem, I can try to help you out.
Please try to enable the Geofencing with “Always” access. NOTE: this will drain your battery really quick. I use this feature before, but my phone dies really quick. instead of that I just change it to schedule,
However if you still insist of using it please flow here.
-
Android: go to setting → find for “Apps” → search for “Eufy Security” app → Go to Permissions → Tap on “Location” → Change to allow all the time. → go to Eufy Security → check for the Geofencing make sure everything is correct → enable Foreground Service.
-
IOS: Go to Setting → Find Eufy Security → Location → Select Always → go to Eufy Security → check for the Geofencing make sure everything is correct → enable Foreground Service.
I think there may be two different problems going on, but eufy DO need to look at this - because whilst one could be categorised as ‘user-error’ (not enabling location to always) there is certainly also a longstanding bug that needs resolving. I have location ‘on always’, but as I sit in my home with alarms going off around me my eufy app is incorrectly stating my phone is ‘outside the zone’ in geofencing settings. Location in google maps is correct and accurate so it’s not a gps issue.
In the end the only thing that would make the status refresh was clicking the save button in geofencing settings.
If someone from eufy is checking these forums can you please confirm this bug has been captured and is on a backlog?
So geofencing is still a problem for me. it works fine when I leave my zone and enables the alarm, but doesn’t recognise when I have returned to the zone so doesn’t dis-arm. If I open the app then it does immediately refresh to recognise I am back in the zone.
all settings re location services etc are set correctly. Now today, I have a rec’d message in the app which states:
“Geofencing: Homebases geofecning is unable to work perfectly due to your family or friends phone location service has not been granted location permission. Go to the enabled devices menu to check the details”
Only my phone is connected to the app and only my phone shows under the enabled devices?
Anyone else just rec’d this message?
I have exactly the same problem. Everything is set up according to the instructions but have to manually change setting, sometimes… its also changing itself to “Disarmed” mode, which is obviously worrying and a pain that everytime i go out i have to check & alter, if nec, the mode. Which defeates the purpose of geofencing. Come on Eufy, whats going on here?
Geofencing does not seem to have a problem enabling “away” mode when I leave the set area but it does not dependably set to “home” when I return and the alarm goes off. I think the problem is I have 2 enabled devices but the app does not always detect when I am “in the zone” when I return even though the cell and wifi signal is strong and background app refresh is enabled on both iphone 12 phones. The only way I get this to work dependably is if I close and reopen the app or look at a camera then the geofencing “wakes up” and both devices correctly show “in the zone”. It seems this feature is very undependable and annoying when alarms sometimes go off when I return.
Same story for me. Today even no Geofencing at all!
We are writing 2024.
Unbelievable Eufy cannot get this fixed. I am thinking about to return the whole set I bought.
Pity. A lot of things were quite good. But without Geofencing it’s worthless to me.
01/10/2024 — 5 years later and several updates installed, but the alarm goes off while I am at home and in geofenced mode.
It also doesn’t detect me when I leave or arrive at home, even being connected to the same Wi-Fi network, so I have to activate and deactivate the alarm manually.
Not even with both mobile phones with the app open and marking the correct area.
A real disaster that EUFY does not know how to solve or does not want to solve.
1st October 2024: Same issue here, struggling to get Geofencing to work reliably.
I’ve had the whole security system for a couple of weeks now and it was a signnificant investment (Homebase 3, 1TB hard drive, 4 cameras, 3 sensors, siren, doorbell, doorbell chime). We were attracted to Eufy like I’m sure many are by their ‘no subscription’ model and have otherwise been really impressed with the system and AI features.
Geofencing will work reliably based solely on the admin user’s phone (iOS), but not does respond to changes in location of the phones of others in the house (all iPhones). If the admin user is away the system arms and triggers false alarms regularly. We’ve been through all the account location settings, accepting invitations saga and have location settings configured correctly in the phones but still no joy.
Currently work-around is by changing from ‘Home’ and ‘Away’ modes using Google assistant (Apple Homekit is only compatible with Homebase 2, apparently), but it’s a matter of time before one of use forgets to yell at our phones / speakers as we enter or leave. Overall its been quite dissappointing and I’m beginning to wish we’d invested seperately in a ‘traditional’ alarm and seperate, wired, CCTV system (solar in the UK winter is not ideal with a north-facing house).
Non-starter ‘solutions’ I have explored:
-
Automation of google assistant using a 3rd party app such as ‘IFTTT’ to change from ‘Home’ ‘Away’ based on location. Initial assessment is that this would work on one device (although drains battery), havent found a solution for multiple devices.
-
Spending even more money on a keypad for by the front door for a more traditional ‘last one out sets the alarm’ (unless they forget) type experience. Keypads are not sold seperately and I don’t need another Homebase 2 bundled with it, although at this point I wish I could return all of it and start again with a Homebase 2 system. I would gladly swap the ‘smart AI’ features of the Homebase 3 for Geofencing working reliably.
Please help Eufy!
I don’t get it. The prime idea of camera’s is to secure your house. Outdoor cams, doorbells, indoor cams, … you name it. A function that helps making it more comfy is geofencing so you can select to receive warnings only when you’re not at home. That’s where Geofencing comes in and that does not work properly.
However, I am more than happy with my Eufy cams. I do regret Geofencing is not working but I implemented a way by which it does work.
I use Home Assistant (HA) and the Eufy Security add-on. I use NodeRed to determine whether or not HA determines a Geofence change (it does that very well). If so NodeRed updates the HA Eufy security setting to Away or Home. Works like a charm.
Does it solve the Eufy issue? No it does not (and it’s strange Eufy is not solving it) but ask Eufy to solve it (the more the merrier) and look for options. All those threats about sending it all back does not help.
