Doorbell camera shuts off/low battery but is hardwired

I have had my doorbell camera turn off 3 times now. It shows battery low power, but unit is hardwired. I have checked and even replaced the power supply with a more powerful one and that did not help. It seems like every time it gets very cold( less than 10 degrees F) this issue appears. It’s happened on cold nights. The regular doorbell continues to function so it has power.
If it’s removed and charged by usb cable it works for a few days to a week. When re-attached it does show the hardwire icon like it is getting power. Is this just a bad unit? It’s less than a year old. Can I get this replaced under warranty?

The battery in your doorbell won’t get charged below 32 F. Eufy restricts or stops charging current at around 32F. There used to be a warning icon and message that showed up in the bottom of the camera frame, but it looks like that got deleted in one of the updates. Cold weather causes the lithium batteries to solidify the electrolyte. That creates 2 issues.

  1. It reduces battery efficiency by up to 30%.
  2. Causes the electrons to plate the anode which will destroy the cell.

About the only way to survive cold weather is:

  1. Make sure you ae fully charged before cold weather starts.
  2. Reduce recording time.
  3. Reduce motion detection or shut it off entirely while its cold.

Depending on how cold it is and how long it lasts, you may have to bring the doorbell inside and warm it before charging.

We love Eufy updates!!! Thanks for the info…. Didnt know that.

@preset do you remember where you got this info from? I had the exact same problem, it’s -10F where I live, and contacted eufy support and they said it’s not normal and the battery should be charged. I’d like to share your source of info with eufy support.

Here is the message that used to pop up in cold weather on their app.

Cold Weather Message

I had a friend who was having issues in cold weather and he didn’t see the message so I tested with one of my cams in about 10 F weather for several hours and the message no longer shows up. It was working in November 21 so somethinng must have changed in the recent software updates.

Any document on lithium batteries will tell you not to charge below 32 F or it will damage the cell.

Eufy support is worse than useless because they don’t know anything about their products.

Wow, thanks for the screen cap. This is a game changer for me because this was not mentionned when I bought the doorbell. It’s sub zero temperature 4-5 months out of year for me. This is my first winter and the doorbell completely discharges every 10-15 days which is a big annoyance to remove the unit, remove the wires and bring inside to recharge and set it up again.
