May I ask what happened next? Did you try to turn off the hardwiring supply to see if the battery got topped up? May I also know you transformer model just for reference? Thank you.

Thank you for your reply it is much appreciated. I’ve not switched the transformer off so far as I don’t dare temp any further problems. The transformer I have is the third one I’ve purchased each increasing in price and power output and so far I am on a Legrand 44232 which is specified as a 24VAC 63VA transformer so far more power than required. The transformer first mentioned as being needed in the Eufy blurb was a 16VAC 10VA then it seems to have changed to needing to be 30VA so I went big as it was difficult to find a DIN rail transformer suitable for the job.
Update… the joy was short-lived and the icons have changed again to just being the green plug icon (which is still good) without any change to my setup or power loss or any firmware update they just changed overnight for no reason. I am waiting for nighttime again and hoping that the pre-roll IR works still fine ![]()
A further update… I decided to unplug the transformer and let the icon change back to the battery icon and then plugged it back in and the green plug icon appeared again then I had to enable pre-roll again but strangely the green battery icon and plug icon didn’t appear even though it said the battery level was 99%.
I think your battery was getting charged and the power supply was larger than the consumption. It’s fine enough. Just forget about the icons. You seem using a high-power transformer then I just want to remind you to take a strong cable to bear the high current to avoid any dangerous scenarios. I’m planning to change to a 15VA transformer to see how it works. Will update then.

I am using thick cable form the transformer to the doorbell as when I first purchased the E340 I completely re-wired my doorbell setup because I wanted to rule wiring out of being the problem. According to the Eufy app you need at least a 16VAC 30VA transformer to enable pre-roll so you need something higher to ensure you get the pre-roll functionality.
New Update… I was just in a bit of a panic because my E340 was stuck on a firmware update which took forever so I thought OMG not another broken device but thankfully it eventually updated and now I have firmware 3.0.8.3 so I am wondering what firmware the rest of you are on?

How’s the pre-roll function working? I see the HB3 received a firmware update 2 days ago for a fix.
I’m currently on 3.0.8.1 so I’ll watch out for the over the next few days. Does it indicate what the changes are in system messages?
The pre-roll on the E340 is working brilliantly. It shows at least 5 seconds of recording pre trigger. It has coped well so far during the day and nighttime.

Thank you for your reply it is much appreciated. The pre-roll is working very well so far but I am noticing my doorbell will see an event and ignore it from time to time. I walked past it the other night and the LED around the button pulsed but I didn’t have any clip from that time and nothing prior or after for about 5 minutes so I have no idea why it ignored me.

Dear Eufy. Can we please have the option to enable the doorbell button light to remain illuminated? My 20 year old manual doorbell has this capability so people know what to press. Pretty basic requirement for a doorbell.
Mine updated today to 3.0.8.3 then as soon as it updated I got another message saying update available so I checked thinking the update hadn’t installed correctly and 3.0.8.5 is available. This one just said it’s to optimise motion detection. Not had chance to check that out yet. But I have noticed the camera initiates immediately when you press the play button.

I have exactly the same problem. After hard wiring the Icon switched to the green symbol but only in the normal App view. Also in power options I can see it’s hard wired
Mysteriously only via my HB3 view I saw, thats the doorbell is listed with battery status
I really dont understand… I only know it’s not acceptable…
Here some news after playing around:
hard wired doorbell just supplies the battery with power but not the doorbell itself.
The specified amperage on the backside of the eufy doorbell is not enough (depends on your settings - see 3.).
hard wired doorbell set the „night view“ settings (video settings) to „night view in color“ as default, which means all 4 LEDs are switched on almost all the time → battery goes dead → hard wiring config is not strong enough to balance the supply → doorbell is still shown as hard wired in green without any error but begins to struggle (connection and wifi doesnt work smooth e.g.)
Ergo: The default hard wiring settings does not fit with the default specified voltage
Solution is to switch the config of LED lights to a lower mode or off (and/or other high power configs) - or to switch the hard wiring supply to a higher voltage than specified on the backside.
Now you can see the battery status shown in homebase settings is fine…

The Homebase showing the battery icon like that is rather confusing and I am also having the same on my app. The iOS app shows a full grey/white battery icon but on the Android app version it shows a green battery icon which is only partially charged with the lightning bolt like it is charging. Very confusing between apps.
