Purchased and am testing these two devices for a friend.
Is it true that despite the camera already happily connected to my WiFi network and the base unit happily hardwired to the same network, for the camera to use the base unit it has to make a WiFi connection to the base unit?
Yep… the s340 is a standalone unit, which means it doesn’t require the need the HomeBase3.
But if you want to use the HomeBase3 in conjunction with the s340 a Wi-Fi link between the two is necessary so you can use the features the HB3 has to offer.
In my test case the camera is on my dock, whereas I placed the base unit in my homes equipment room.
It seems I will have to dispense with the base unit as I don’t want it “polluting” my existing WiFi network with it’s own signal.
It’s too bad as I liked the features the base unit offered.
I hope the engineers realize that, with both devices already connected to the same network, they could design it so as to NOT require connecting the camera to the base unit using the WiFi feature of the base unit.
In the app, if you open the Settings for the device, you’ll see a “share your thoughts” where you can send feedback.
I’ve never used it though…
