Does Eufy homebase 2 create its own Wi-Fi network for the cameras or do the cameras use my existing Wi-Fi network?
I have a well-developed Wi-Fi network but a homebase 2 can not reach everywhere.
It uses it’s own wifi for the cameras, so it is limited to the reach of the homebase2. Not sure if eufy has any extenders.
That was not the answer I really wanted!
Then I understand that I do not get in touch with all the cameras! Things I would have found out before the purchase.
Can you have two homebase 2 working with each other?
this is why i tell people that for apartment use the homebase 2 is adequate, but for home use a mesh network with nodes that have ethernet connectivity (like orbi) are the best way to go. and yes you can add additional homebases but i don’t think that will help with camera connectivity, you usually add a homebase when you need more then 5 cameras.
Eufy uses a proprietary network protocol in the 2.4 Ghz band to talk between homebase and cameras. Its designed to maximize power savings for the battery devices.
You can use multiple Homebases to reach devices that won’t stretch on one. The problem with that is you can’t manage Modes or Automations across multiple homebases because the homebase only talks to child devices. Homebases don’t talk to each other. They need a single management device to handle all the scheduling and automations across multiple homebases, but I’m not convinced they will ever build one.
I don’t know where the 5 camera limit comes from. Eufy says 16 cameras in all the spec sheets I have seen.
I currently have 22 devices (14 cameras) on single Homebase and they all work without issues. I did originally run my Homebase on Wifi and move it around so that all my cameras worked reliably. Once I found the right spot, I ran ethernet back to the router and switched over to ethernet. This setup has been working solidly for over a year.
Just curious. Is the network protocol used between HomeBase and camera IP-based ?
