So can anyone explain to me what the point in having a solar camera if you still have to keep it plugged up? I just don’t get it.
You have to make sure the sun is landing directly onto the solar panel in order for it to keep charge. If the solar isn’t working properly. Contact eufy support.
If it’s in a busy area or in winter (less sunlight), then it will deplete the charge faster than the CCTV solar power panel can recharge. I have the same issues on my CCTV and have to power them up. Less busy area no issue on the solar power recharge. So this is the big question: Solar versus constant power source?
S330 Losing Charge, Even With Good Sun
The solar panel atop the S220 is poor. It provides very little charge. I added a proper solar panel and plugged it in to the camera via the USB C charging port.
Aftermarket 10 watt panels work well. They are about £10 new on Ebay (UK). Alternatively Eufy sell a 5.5 watt panel.
My S220’s used to last about 10 days before they needed recharging using the built in panel. With an external panel they permanently stay at 100% even during winter.
Also, try adjusting the camera settings so that their sensitivity and field of vision is reduced. I hope that helps.
- I’ve had this camera for a couple years now with zero issues if properly placed for sunlight at least 6 hrs a day. Even in winter, no issues with this camera staying more charged over other eufy models I own.
- Keep it clean on top. Simple water it off will do.
- Make sure your settings arent draining the battery well below the ability for the camera to recharge. If you’re attempting to operate it as if it is a “plugged” in model on 24/7 and not ignoring 50% of the action in front of it than most likely you chose the wrong camera for the job.
Solutions: - Simply change settings to reduce triggers.
- Make sure sun is at least 6hrs directly on unit.
- Purchase Voltage compatible solar panel with built in battery for additional battery run time. These are often called “solar trail cam panels” due to many sportsmen using them with trail cams in remote areas for months on end and the solar panel has a backup battery often very large. These can be less than $100 depending on size and capacity. Remember to verify VOLTAGE & PLUG TYPE capabilities with the eufy camera. Very important to not destroy your camera.
The external panels help, but in my case busy area and weather just could not cope.
I clean the solar panel every other week. I also adjusted the angle.
