this guy decided he would let himself into my house, ended with him getting a free ride from our local law enforcement.

Did he tell the police the reason? Theft?
He said he was sent there by someone and no he didn’t steal anything, my kids were home and I was 2 houses down and ran back up to catch him in my son’s room and held him until police arrived.
