Thoughts on Arlo?

I’ve about had it with Eufy kit now. Anybody switched to Arlo who can comment on performance?

I had an Arlo Pro 4 for about a month. I’m sending it back today or tomorrow.

Here’s some pros & cons of that model:

Arlo Pro 4:
+ 24 fps (at night 15 fps)
+ adjustable FOV: 110° / 125° / 160°
+ can download all videos at once
+ watch/download recordings with a web browser
+ grid view which works with browsers too (max. 5 cameras simultaneously)
+ good 2k image quality (live feed + recordings)
+ possible to adjust image brightness
+ no hub needed (in theory but... no recordings without the hub or cloud subscription)
- cloud 3€ / month per camera
- expensive (180-250 €)
- no rtsp/onvif
- won't record while watching live feed
- recording only possible with the hub or cloud subscription (price of hubs >100€) --> camera is useless without the hub or subscription (also no thumbnail pics with the hub!)
- camera will disable itself if temperature goes below -15°C (or battery level below 25%?!)
- motion detection much more unreliable than on eufyCam 2C - doesn't respond to a 25-kg dog that well
- battery went from 100% to 0% in less than a week --> the main reason for returning the camera soon
- vendor don't listen to customers

I read that the latest fw-update might have messed up the power consumption but even before that I had to recharge the camera after 3-4 weeks. my eufy cameras last at least 2-3x longer.

That’s a shame. I sent back my defective Eufy camera today for a refund. I am completely done with them after that terrible experience.

So I too was considering Arlo, hmmm wonder what other serious contenders we have.

Defintely not risking Eufy again.

I also bought a YI Kami Wire-Free Outdoor camera recently. Here’s my thoughts on that:
+ works fine in -20°C and colder
+ 20 fps (always?)
+ vendor listens to customers and actually acts on requests/bug reports!
+ works on tinyCam Monitor
- image quality worse than Arlo & eufy
- motion detection seriously lacking compared to others. doesn’t seem to react to a 25-kg dog at all - reacts to humans only (sometimes)
- has recorded only 5 or 6 videos in ~10 days with the most sensitive setting while other cameras record the same amount in one day
- corrupted my Transcend SD card a few times. SanDisk Extreme seems to work better.
- long cooldown period (5 mins?) after each recording without the cloud subscription
- app is awful
