Does the homebase 2 require an always on Internet connection in order to function?
my local Internet connection is very flaky and the system doesn’t seem to work when my Internet drops.

Yes, Homebase 2 is requires the Internet connection in order to upload all the recorded video files and sending the notification to the user so the user can access the information anytime anywhere while using the app.

Shouldn’t this be able to function normally without an internet connection when we are at home?
It’s a security system for crying out loud!
If we lose internet and can very easily establish a direct connection to the homebase, we should be able to see camera footage! Or doesn’t it even record once the internet connection is gone?
Actually think we should be able to use this direct connection even when there’s an internet connection. It would save bandwidth (for both you and us) and would be much faster / more reliable.
The whole point of it storing video locally should be that you can access it over the LAN without it needing to touch the WAN.
I obviously didn’t research it well enough before i made the purchase because I didn’t realise it needed to talk back to Eufy HQ in order to function.

It’s definitely not spelled out anywhere and their marketing makes you think that it will work that way.

Most certainly!. The whole business of Eufy saying ‘no cloud’ necessary is stretching the truth a bit, when the whole system depends on a web connection to the Eufy servers.
Does make me question whether I made the right choice of manufacturer!
