Hmmm. That’s a lot of inquiries…
I know it checks the servers at Amazon AWS when you do event video playbacks, the app sends an encryption key to verify.
And then the cameras will randomly do a firmware checking, don’t know what servers they use.
There’s also a cloud service option - akamaiedge
This is David from the eufy Team. Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. After a thorough review with our development team, we can confirm that these domains are solely used to check the status of your network connection and do not involve any actual data exchange. We hope this clarification provides you with peace of mind. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns—I’m here to help.
@David.Y Thank you for your reply. To check the status of the network there are several other ways then calling Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Google and Microsoft 200 times a day. I have several other Eufy products none of them make such calls. ie. the Eufy indoor 2K makes calls too security-app-eu.eufylife.com and zhixin-security-eu.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com in a very less frequency. The Homebase:
I would like to see more details about the reason and what calls are being made to the domains mention in the ticket by the E330 and not just to Eufy’s domains.
Apologies, @jda268 , I missed replying in a timely manner.
This solution is primarily designed to address the issue of devices going offline in specific abnormal scenarios. By detecting network disconnections through this action, it performs measures such as restarting the network adapter in an attempt to restore the connection.
Hi @David.Y that doenst make sense to me. None of my other Eufy devices make such calls, nor it is needed to make any calls to either of of these data consuming big techs for a camera to detect the network connection. The camera is on the local network not even storing in Eufy cloud. Im am really wondering what calls it is making. Maybe you can clarify that or should I mirror the ports and analyse the network traffic to see what it is doing?
Hi jdo, apologies for the delayed response. This new feature has been added to the E330, and it only performs ping operations on well-known websites. You can verify this through network traffic analysis. These packets will use a small amount of your data, but the data consumption is typically minimal.
Its not about the data consumption being minimal but about privacy concerns of Eufy making unneccessary calls to Facebook, Google, Microsoft etc. The camera isn’t even connected to the cloud. So please give me one valid reason why it should make call or ping to those big tech providers that do love to consume data? It’s not mentioned in the manual or privacy policy neither. So I kindly ask Eufy to update the firmware and removed these calls or be transparant about it.
The product development team truly values your feedback. After evaluation, we’ve decided to remove this feature in a future update. While the timeline is yet to be determined, I’ll make sure to update you in this thread as soon as the corresponding version is released.
