Entry sensor outside

I think that’s my plan… gonna pick up some sensors next “sale”. And DIY them. What’s the worst that could happen…

My motion sensor is hanging on the outside of the house and not under shelter and has survived fine in it’s Blink case. I did throw a little silicon tape on the entry sensor on the shed. I haven’t taken it apart to see if there is any corrosion or condensation buildup, but its been working every time I needed it. I have a spare of each and if one fails I’ll pull it apart and report what I find.

If I can get a year out of them… I would be overjoyed

Not been on here in a long time, yes mine are still fine they are in the elements; rain, sun, fog, pressure washed etc

Hate to say it but I was incorrect. The circuit board in the door sensor is working flawlessly. I was expecting to change the door sensor every six months because the circuit board was not potted. Don’t bother, just place it inside of a sealed box on a dry day and enjoy. This setup has saved me countless trips to check the mailbox. Also, I have the door sensor set to trigger a camera to record when the mailbox is opened. The camera is too far away for the motion sensor in the camera to work. I also have four actual motion sensors installed in outdoor uninsulated storage sheds. Has been over a year without issues. I did not seal these sensors. With the mailbox, I am willing to post my silly mailbox hack if anyone is interested. By the way, mine was a little more complicated because I have a metal mailbox.

anyone have any updates on this? I bought an entry sensor and plan to seal it with silicone tape and see how that fairs in SoCal weather

Nice old thread. I ended up waterproofing a few motion sensors instead of the window sensors. Need to deal with a few false triggers but I like the versatility. Been out in the rough for a year without issues. But I will share the direction I was headed with waterproofing the window sensors. The shipping packaging wraps the sensor without any seams. I figured this gets a chunk of the electronics covered. That’s as far as I got. Let us know what you end up with. If Eufy has not got to waterproofing these things yet…. I don’t think they will. There will be others interested I’m sure.

I bought some IP67 rated electronic cases like this

Will try using that box first…that makes more sense.

Neither have arrived yet - will update with results when I give it a shot

Just an update. The motion sensor has been outside in its Blink case for over 2 years at this point and still working fine.

In your blink case…. Did you cover the front with anything? I fully covered my motion sensors but noticed moisture building up inside. I added water safe air holes to mine and they cleared up. Working great so far after 1 year in full sun, rain and snow.

The blink case comes with a slot in the front and I dremeled the slot so it roughly matched the shape of the IR sensor. I stuffed the rest of voids inside with foam pipe insulation. I did put some silicon around the inside of the top of slot so it would seal between the case and the sensor.

So I’m guessing nothing in front of the PIR? (Like the rain would actually hit the front of the eufy sensor?). Mine it’s covered completely. I have seen others that put the sensor in a mounted case like you did…. But they closed the sensor inside with a plastic window.

I have the whole assembly angled down slightly when I mounted it outside, so didn’t do anything to cover the sensor. I didn’t want to reduce the detection capability by adding a cover. It catches everything coming up to my porch, but doesn’t get triggered by rain or wind moving bushes. I am really happy with the added detection capability.
