I’ve just purchased a Eufy Doorbell E340 with the “Wired or Battery” option and I’m struggling to find something reliable explaining how to wire this with the standard UK wiring that I have currently.
I have a relatively new home, about 3-4 years old, with a standard doorbell which is wired into a chime directly above the inside of my front door which has a Honeywell Transformer wired into the homes mains electricity - see image:
Hi,
Well looking at the power requirements on the rear of the doorbell 8 - 24V & 0.5A and the specs on your transformer you meet the requirements and even have an extra 0.5A to to charge the battery.
Now that’s not to say it will work…
Some posts on this forum_users have issues with battery charging and their mechanical doorbell not operating properly, like only one ding and no dong.
You’ll have to test it out / remove the old doorbell and remove the two wires from it, be sure not to let them touch each other or if you know what circuit breaker the transformer is on then switch that off, connect the two wires to the new doorbell and see how it works for you.
Good luck
I really appreciate your response. Whilst it kind of seemed obvious giving the power readings on the transformer and the requirements of the doorbell, I was a bit reluctant to try wiring it in without fully knowing if it would cause any issues with the extra 0.5A of power.
It ended up being really simple and now my E340 doorbell is working beautifully with the power icon being displayed:
I hope this doesn’t impact the longevity of the battery but I guess only time will tell.
I was also able to keep the original chime and both the ‘Ding’ and ‘Dong’ are working so I’m really pleased.
Just another quick question please; with the old doorbell being circular and with the positioning of the new Eufy E340, I had to fit it slightly to left of the original position of the old doorbell and it’s left the existing hole for the wiring exposed, any ideas to fill / cover this without making it look super ugly?
It’s worth noting I do have a decent porch and this doorbell is rarely exposed to rain unless it’s a very heavy and windy downpour but regardless, in the winter I don’t want it getting exposed to moisture and frost etc.
Happy to help you out on getting her done.
Not to worry about the extra 0.5A as the doorbell will only use what it needs.
As I don’t have this doorbell, I believe it runs off the battery so that plug icon may switch to a battery icon when it’s charged and then back again when it’s charging.
We’ll see if anyone here posts back about that.
The photos you provided of the wires behind the doorbell, well since I’m not there to visually see it… You could try to find a wall plate that will work, though you may need to modify it to fit properly.
can you describe your wiring in a little more detail? I also have an 8V ~ 1A transformer. Does a cable go from the transformer to the Eufy and then a cable from the Eufy to the chime? And a cable from the chime to the transformer? If it is wired like this, does the Eufy charge and the old chime also works when you press the bell button? Thank you!
Thanks for the follow up, I agree and I’m planning to do the blanking plate very soon, before the colder weather arrives, as soon as I do, I will update this thread!
Loving the image of Gattsu, is that from the Dreamcast version of the game, I can’t say I’m familiar with that depiction of him.
So your 8V ~ 1A transformer is perfect, I’ve had mine about 3 months so far and I’ve not needed to remove it or charge it or anything. The power icon remains and I’ve never had any battery icon to indicate it’s trying to charge or anything (so far so good).
So for the wiring, I didn’t touch anything inside the Chime/Transformer box for my doorbell, I left it exactly as it was, it looks like this:
If you look at the top the two wires coming in, these are the power Neutral (Blue) and Live (Brown) wires coming into the transformer, then the two bottom wires are the wires going into the chime.
Now from outside where the doorbell is, the wires from the chime, go into the doorbell itself, which I took out:
I simply unscrewed those 4 wires and disconnected the existing doorbell and then wired those directly into the little plastic plugs provided with the doorbell, like so:
Ensure you attach the new wires as well (there is no polarisation so they can go in either way) and then connect the new wires to the back of the doorbell and voila!!!
I hope that helps but let me know if you have any other questions.
Also the chime works perfectly, once it’s all wired in and connected to your router, you’ll configure the doorbell with the app and you can play around with all the settings. One thing I did do, is turn the outside doorbell all the way down otherwise every time someone rings the doorbell, it rings outside too and can be very loud for the neighbours. Otherwise the app and doorbell have been working flawlessly (touch wood), I hope it stays that way.
