what is he best, compatible, external hard drive to use for home base 3???

Hi, I’m not sure that you can connect an external hard drive into the rear USB port of the HB3, it is suggested that you can back up video recordings that are stored on the HomeBase 3 by inserting a USB drive into the USB 1 port.

If you’re asking about expanding the storage of the HB3 a 1 or 2 terabyte hard drive would be sufficient.
I would choose between these two Samsung or Western digital.

Yes, I was asking about the sata format to insert into the homebase 3. Thank you. I was eyeing these two and just curious if there was a community preferred brand.

Either one of those would be great to use or crucial SSD I’ve used for years.

I’m using a 500mb Crucial drive which works fine for my 10 cameras
