Robo Mop Tip - Dirty Water Smell

Morning all! Quick share for a question I see all the time on here and Facebook. And that’s, my dirty water tank smells like death is that normal? The answer is normally yes unfortunately. Contrary a lot of answers the smell and the darker colored water isn’t all from your floor directly. When the mop is washed and the dirt gets extracted bacteria comes with it. Bacteria can grow inside the dirty water tank very quickly which creates darker water and that awful smell. This isn’t a bad thing though it means your robot is working and cleaning your floors!

So how do you stop it. Well the real answer is you don’t, at least not completely but you can manage it. The simplest way I’ve found is to add a cap of mouth wash to the dirty water tank. Can be any brand or scent and there is no risk the vacuum as it’s never circulated. This works wonders to suppress the smell you most likely not be a lighter color in the water over time. This works well if you allow the tank to fill or sit between cleans. Doing. This allows me to leave the tank alone for multiple runs reducing the maintenance of the bot.

Using a floor cleaning solution (NON FOAMING!!) can help but is mostly used up by the time the water reaches the dirty tanks.

And finally. Wash those tanks! Is easy to just dump and go. Take 60 seconds add some soap and wash down the side and bottom of the tank, it makes a world of difference.

I use this on my Eufy E28 but this trick should be safe for all models with a dedicated dirty water tank!

Happy mopping!

Use a spray bottle and mist the mouthwash into the dirty water tank. You use way less, and is just as effective.

Great suggestion. I did get a few comment about the full cap. I honestly don’t normally measure at all and just put a few drips in the bottom. Probably more like a half cap. Love the spray bottle idea though will give it a shot thanks!
