Signal for cameras via mesh?

I’m trying to install a set of cameras to my home, which is a single story home that’s long-ish. Given this, my home wifi is set up with mesh wifi units, to spread the signal.
I was hoping that as I’ve got the Homebase 2 connected to the router, that it and the cameras would grab the signal from those units, but I’ve noticed that the cameras’ signal deteriorates the further it is from the Homebase — even when they’re close to a mesh extender. So it seems the cameras are likely communicating directly with the base unit, rather than through wifi.
Is there any way to configure it so that it grabs the stronger wifi signal from the mesh unit? Thanks!
