Automation confusion

Can anyone explain why my porch and front cameras do not record when doorbell detects motion or when it is pressed?

It worked perfectly fine when I had HB2, but does not seem to activate the automation when using HB3.

I added a flashing light alarm to my front camera to see if it was running properly, which did active but no recordings?

Maybe the HB3 doesn’t recognize it.
Was this automation set before you got the HB3?
If so, delete that automation and create a new one.
Also, double check to see if the cameras require a firmware update.

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually set up the automation after I got the HB3, so it wasn’t carried over from before. I’ve already tried deleting and recreating the automation, but unfortunately, it didn’t fix the issue.

As for firmware updates, I’ve checked, and everything is up to date. Still scratching my head on this one! Any other ideas?

How about your Security Mode… Home Away are the cameras listed set to record?

I’ve set up a custom schedule where the cameras switch between different modes. During the day, they switch to a mode where “recordings” are turned off to save battery, and at night they switch to record motion. I only want them to record during the day when triggered by the doorbell (motion or ring).

This setup worked perfectly on HB2, but with HB3, it seems like the automation won’t trigger unless “recordings” are turned on in the Security Mode. Any thoughts on why that might be?

So it will only work if you turn on the other cameras to record during the day but, you don’t want that setting on to save battery. But it was working prior with the HB2… The schedule and security settings.
The way I worded it may be a bit confusing but I understand what you mean and how you have it set up.

How about the schedule have you tried redoing it again, sorry if I missed read if you had done so.

But to me… I think the HB3 has a glitch.

You’ve got it right! The automations only work if I turn on “Video Recording” for the other cameras during the day, but I want to keep it off to save battery. This worked fine on HB2, where the doorbell triggered the cameras without needing the “recording” option on all day.

From my first post and the automation screenshot:

  • The doorbell should trigger recordings for both the Porch and Front cameras during the blue section (daytime), but it only works during the yellow section (nighttime).

In the blue section, only the doorbell is set to record to save battery because of the busy street. The yellow section turns on recordings for all cameras at night since there’s less activity and battery drain is low.

I’ve already tried redoing the schedule, but the problem is still there. I think it might be a glitch with HB3.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Thanks for understanding!

Well, I would suggest that you report this to eufy support to let them know about this issue. Perhaps they can figure it out with a firmware update.
So it might be time consuming trying to make them understand what is actually going on.
I would even link this post to them so they can read it.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve already been in touch with Eufy support and have explained the issue in detail. It’s taken some time to make them fully understand the situation, but they’ve forwarded my case to their dedicated team for further investigation.

I’ve also shared screenshots and all the necessary details with them, and they’ve confirmed that they’ll look into it for a potential firmware update. I’ll link this post to them as well, as you suggested—it might help provide additional context.

If you’ve got some spare time and feel like it, see if you can replicate the issue too! Would love to know if it’s just me!

I appreciate your advice, and I’ll keep you updated if I hear anything back from Eufy!

I have six cameras but, don’t use a HomeBase.
If I did I would try to test it out to see if the same thing would occur.

Ah I see - no worries. Thanks again for the help and really appreciate your input!

Hi, I have exactly the same usage scenario as you.
The automations also worked for me with HB2 and after switching to HB3 the cameras only record when they are set to record.
But I don’t want any recordings during the day except when my door sensor at the front door reports that the door has been opened.
This is a problem and since it worked with the HB2, Eufy urgently needs to do something about it.
