Can anyone help me with choosing the correct hard drive to add extra storage to my home base S380. I would like to have the option of installing it. The only information I have is to make sure that it is the correct shape in order to fit in the home base. That is what the directions say on the instructions.
I suggest getting an SSD drive! Lots of options out there! I would check reviews online and see if you can find a deal!
I recommend a SSD as they offer faster data access, improved performance, and greater durability when compared to an HDD. Eufy recommends the following brands -
Western Digital, Seagate, SAMSUNG, Kingston, PNY, Crucial
I purchased the Crucial one found here Amazon.com: Crucial BX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5-Inch Internal SSD, up to 540MB/s - CT1000BX500SSD1, Solid State Drive : Electronics. The amount of storage will depend on the number of cameras, configurations, and amount of time you want to keep your footage. I started with a 1 TB and upgraded to a 2 TB which is working well for me.
The key thing is that it’s a 2.5" drive, NOT a 3.5"
I was looking into the same thing for an internal hard drive I ended up going with the external hard drive to terabyte that I could just plug into the back and archive the videos but the main one that I was looking at which was indicated in the manual was something for storage that is good quality but can have all the storage as well I would choose
SAMSUNG Electronics 870 EVO 2TB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-77E2T0B/AM)
I’ve got a 2TB PNY, thinking about upgrading to something larger as I keep adding devices and since mid march have almost 500GBs used.
As most have said, stick with SSD.
With regards to capacity that will be variable dependent upon your system and whether you require 24hr recording on each camera.
Please note you’ll need the 2.5" size.
By far the most reliable so far have been Samsung 870 QVO drives.
Don’t get an unknown or budget budget brand as the failure rate is high. That’s the last thing you want when it comes to capturing evidential footage.
The quality and life cycle of WD/SanDisk for the consumer market has dropped considerably over the past 4 years so again I’d avoid that.
When I was involved with the security industry (dealing with councils, boroughs and law enforcement), at bare minimum we’d allow 500gb per camera if in standard definition. We’d often recommend higher, but we’d state a minimum so as they could align their purchases with their respective budget.
I use a 1tb Samsung (as described above) for my 2k doorbell and base 3. The eufy system itself (had 5 weeks of constant communication with customer service manager and “technicians” and nothing improved or fixed), has more bugs than the Amazon rainforest, to the point I don’t get any alerts. But having 1tb available, means there’s plenty of space so I can regularly and manually check recordings then keep what I want and erase the others.
Hope this helps.
You can also buy one on eufy site.
Fabol, I’d not recommend buying from Eufy. You get charged a premium price. There’s plenty of reasonable priced outlets for these mentioned storage drive brands
