e30 and weather

Hello, all.

I bought, and am pleased with, an e30 camera/floodlight. It’s under the eaves, so there’s really no chance of any rain or snow hitting it. I’m thinking of replacing a Feit camera/floodlight mounted on a post. The problem with that one is that the light always comes on when it’s windy or rainy. It gets so annoying that I have to turn off the motion sensor, which kind of defeats the purpose of the security light/camera.

What I would like to ask is how sensitive the e30 would be mounted in the same place? Am I going to run into the same situation and need to turn off its security features every time it rains or is windy? Is it even meant to be out in the elements like that, or kept protected as my other e30 is?

Also, if it can be out in the rain, what happens to the camera if the camera ices over and isn’t able to rotate? Will it burn out the motor or strip gears trying?

Thanks ahead of time.

I don’t have the E30, but I’ve been running the S340 pan and tilt outdoors for two Canadian winters now. It’s been through snow, ice, and freezing rain without any issues. Never had it freeze up or fail to rotate, even with frost on it.

I think the E30 should be totally fine on a post. It’s built for outdoor use, and Eufy gear generally holds up well. As for motion sensitivity, it might still react to rain or wind sometimes, but you can adjust the activity zones and sensitivity settings to help cut down on the false triggers. Definitely better than having to shut it off.

Thanks, smi1951. I’ve been getting good replies on this site. It’s a nice change from what I was getting with Feit’s customer service. I had an issue with one of their units and it took them three months to reply to me. At one point, even after I’d given them the UPC, description and everything else I could think of off the box, the guy asks for photos of the front and back of the unit. If you don’t know, or can’t find out, from a UPC what product you sell, you shouldn’t be in customer service. I bought it from Costco, so it was no problem taking it back after six months. Feit is still sending me “reminders” which I just delete without even reading anymore. Needless to say, Feit is no longer on my list of camera/floodlight systems to research. I’m very happy with the eufy so far.

Thanks again for the quick reply. I hope to hear more positive reviews from more users.

@styler001 I hear you. That kind of customer service would drive anyone nuts. If you’ve already given them the UPC and details, asking for photos after all that is just lazy. Good on you for returning it. Costco makes that part easy at least.

Sounds like switching to Eufy was the right move. I’ve had a way better experience with them too. Not perfect, but the app works well and the community actually helps out.

Hope you keep getting good results with your setup.

Yep. Bought the second unit and got it mounted to replace the Fein unit. Very happy with these new ones.

One thing, though. I had to mount it on a pole that had something obstructing where I want to have it positioned. The trouble is that it’s not “centered” where I’d like it to be while it’s waiting for motion. I could have sworn I read somewhere in the app where you can change the position the camera returns to after it’s “all clear” again, but I can’t seem to find it. Is it possible to do this? If so, how?

Thanks again.

Morning. You can set preset locations up in the app under the camera settings.

you’re looking for the Preset Positions under the camera settings.

  1. Open the Eufy Security app
  2. Go to the S340 camera settings
  3. Tap Preset Positions
  4. Move the camera to the angle you want it to return to
  5. Tap Set.
You can mark one of your 4 presets as the “Home” or Default position, which is where it will default to after tracking motion.

The other Presets you can manually use when viewing the camera live. There are icons along the bottom when you’re viewing a life stream, one of them in presets. You can tap a preset and have it go to that position. Rather than using the pan and tilt manual controls.

That’ll make the camera return to that spot after it’s done tracking motion. It’s easy to miss, but super handy once it’s set.

This took care of the “problem”.

You guys really come through here…and quickly.

Thanks.
