After several weeks, I have just been successful with the installation of my E340 camera doorbell. After weeks of email messages back and forth with Eufy support I finally spoke with someone in support on the phone. The issue was obvious and the solution was easy.
I wanted to use my E340 as a wired doorbell. I didn’t want to mess with pulling the battery and re-charging it even if was something that only was needed every few months. Besides I had the wiring and power from the doorbell I was replacing so why not use it.
What is not apparent in the installation is that even though I attached the wires from my old doorbell to the new E340 I had to leave the battery in place. The doorbell will not work on the power from the transformer alone. Actually the power from the transformer is only used (with one exception) to trickle charge the battery. The doorbell obtains its power from the battery much like the radio and lights in your car uses the car battery for energy and the alternator charges the car battery. This requirement is not apparent in the installation documents and even after weeks of email, the question was never asked. Feedback has been provided to Eufy who will, hopefully, change some things.
Also a 10VA transformer will work fine to trickle charge the battery. It is only when you want to use the pre-recording feature of the doorbell that you’ll need the 30VA power. And this is the situation where the transformer is providing power beyond just charging.
