My Homebase 3 seems to have developed a very noisy fan which is almost constantly running. Any ideas?
Does it sound like the fan is going bad, sweaking rattling noise, or is it just the blowing wind of the fan?
You could try rebooting the HB3 to see if that will stop the fan from running often.
To do that you would unplug the power cable and the ethernet cable (ethernet cable if you’re using one), wait 30 seconds then plug them back in.
Fan was just running very fast and noisy due to this fact but I have removed the hard drive now and the fan is now off. No need for the larger storage anyway for my needs. Thanks

Mine did this last month the fan was running constantly,(never heard this before almost 2 years) turned off for 10 minutes then back on for a couple hours then back off for 10 minutes It wasn’t crazy loud and I actually thought it was helping the HB run cooler and cameras were working better so I was alright with it. But then we had a power outage and when it came back on it wasn’t doing it anymore. so point is try unplugging it and let it rest for a couple minutes and reinstall the hard drive and see what happens. Maybe the hard drive but not in my case.
It probably stopped because you power cycled the unit when you unplugged to remove the hard drive
Did you make sure there was plenty of air flow around the unit? (Too many users enclose electronics and wonder why the internal dans keep running)

Did you purchase it separately or was it supplied with the HomeBase?

My hard drive is a Seagate 500GB. Unit not enclosed and ran just like everyone else’s for six months or more but lately started the fan running almost constantly. HD only a fraction full so no issue with storage capacity. However as I say, I’ve removed it now and the problem has gone with it. In actual fact unless you really need years of video and data there’s no need for it on a normal residential situation. We all keep far too much data anyway these days. Hope all this helps others a bit. Simply throw out the HD.
