Not the best experience so far…
Bought a 2K dual doorbell, and mounted it. For the first couple of days, it was working, with notifications - and just wouldn’t take new firmware. Eufy (to be fair) sent a 2nd doorbell, which wouldn’t update either - and I’ve now found out that it was because my router was blocking QUIC traffic out (UDP 80/443). I enabled that, and both bells updated.
Now however, I have no notifications, unless I kill the Android app on my phone, wipe cache/storage, uninstall and reinstall.
I don’t have a “simple” setup - I have:
- Pixel 6 Pro with Android 13
- Unifi router/LAN with Unifi access points for my WLAN
- DHCP forwarded from Unifi to my piHole (hosted on my own home server)
- piHole whitelists *eufylife.com and *anker-in.com
- WireGuard VPN also hosted on my own home server
- WireGuard VPN client set on my Pixel 6 Pro for JUST my LAN range
- EufyLife app excluded from WireGuard VPN
That said, no other device has an issue with the above. I’ve only ever had ‘bother’ from the LG TV app which works fine once excluded from the VPN.
I’ve ensured nothing is being blocked from the HomeBase 2 out (firewall or ad block. Eufy app is allowed to display notifications to Android, and is set (in the app) for all notifications (motion/ring etc)
When I reinstall the app, I validate that:
- I can connect the app to HomeBase and get LiveView
- I can connect via WiFi in the house without VPN on
- I can connect via WiFi in the house with VPN on
- 1-3 above, but roaming around access points in the house
- I can connect via cellular without VPN on
- I can connect via cellular with VPN on
When testing, I get notifications for movement/recognition/ring. However, after a while, (overnight) it all just ‘stops’.
This morning, the app showed connected but wouldn’t show events, even though the camera was recording then. Restart the app and lo, events showed. No notifications. LiveView however, always works fine.
Given the main point of the bell is to speak to people via the app after receiving a notification, I’m a bit dismayed.
HomeBase 2 and bells on latest firmware.
Has anyone else got a cure for notifications vanishing that doens’t involve logging in/out, or reinstalling?
Thanks in advance!
