I’ve got an S340 (ver 3.2.5.3) camera running with a Euphy solar panel that Euphy have replaced once after I noticed its battery was draining quickly and logging a large number of events at night. The replacement has not resolved the issue.
There’s a couple of issues:
-
The solar panel charging was ok in the summer (UK) but since the days have shortened the panel charges some days but not others. I assume this is just due to UK winter light levels.
-
Although the solar panel is charging erratically I’ve also noticed that the camera is logging a lot of events at night. In 16 days its detected 2734 events and 1254 recorded events and most of these are at night.
I’ve tried the following:
- Set the camera to “optimal battery life”
- Set the motion detection setting to the lowest “1”
- set the detection type to “Human”
- Setup activity zones on just the relevant areas
but it is still logging lots of events at night. I tested the camera at night by putting it into test mode and walking outside of the detection area and it still detects motion. I’ve also noticed people walking past outside of the detection area are detected.
It looks to me like the battery isn’t charging due to low light levels which in winter is understandable. However he camera is detecting events it shouldn’t, which to me looks like a software/firmware issue. Euphy has sent me another camera which I will try but i doubt this will fix the issue.
I like the camera and am beginning to think I’ll have to wire it to a suitable charger that I periodically charge the battery on the camera with and let it record events that aren’t really events.
Any hints or info from others that have resolved this issue would be appreciated.
