I have three of the same cameras installed Bought 3 cameras at the same time, then one of them started having the battery drain, slowly. (ie, wasn’t recharging).
I assumed the solar panel was issue so disconnected cable from panel & plugged into a USB plug & extension cord. Still wouldn’t recognize it was plugged in (so the problem wasn’t the solar panel).
Plugged directly into a power bank to bypass the USB connector & nothing. I begrudgingly disconnected from mount with 12ft ladder & took it inside. Plugged into my phone charger cable and it worked perfectly! Charged to 100%, and figured I would have to take it down every month and recharge it.
Reconnected Eufy’s cable and it couldn’t find the solar panel. I used my own cable directly into camera & it worked, but since it’s at right angle, a normal cable won’t connect to it AND sit in the mounting bracket.
Thought it has to be the waterproof seal/ring around the metal USB-C part on the cable Eufy provided, that is preventing it from seating properly to get the charge, or the cable itself.
I plugged in, but switched it to battery power & planned to monitor & bring inside to charge when needed. It slowly started to drain for 2 days.
WHEN I READ THIS POST, I checked the battery level, to see how much it has dropped in the last couple days and magically, it started charging again!
This makes me think it’s some kind of software or firmware update that the company has done, that effects how it recognizes the solar panel as being connected or not? I have not touched it.
It’s a high traffic area and gets the most use of any of my cameras.
Hope mine doesn’t have the same problem
Just swapped the Eufy solar panel with one from Amazon and my camera charged from 19% to 32% in one day. It shows it charged over 1000mah just today. Nice to have the battery charging again.
I gave up. Returning this and hoping this will get better in the future.
Solar panels are definitely one of eufy’s weak spots they need to improve.
A few months ago, I had a similar issue. I snooped around in settings and found that I somehow changed something, that I think was causing the light to come on more often and it was hurting the battery. Maybe it was an update or maybe it was my own user error. Once I found that, I brought it inside to charge one time, and then reinstalled outside where it has been happy ever since. It’s no guarantee, but it helped me.
Good luck!!
How long does it last?
I had a problem contacted them and they sent a replacement
I just created a video that you might want to see… Go back and scroll down to the one were the guy’s got a pho e charger in his hand…
No, the panels on both cameras get direct sunlight. It doesn’t get any more direct… and at this time of year, that is from 6am to roughly 4pm, for their peak ‘direct’ sunlight. Subsequent to that the light would be more ambient (vs direct) until around 8:30pm (sunset).
The panels will power the camera directly, without any issues (despite saying that the panel is not detected) however there is no charging indication on the panel/battery interface.
This issue points to a firmware/configuration problem that should be prioritized and rectified by Euphy.
