I have recently installed an E340 video doorbell (power hardwired into the unit). This comes with a chime unit which has a micro SD card slot which on page 3 of the instruction manual said ‘to store recordings (optional).’ That seems a reasonable suggestion. I have thus installed a 64GB class 10 card.
That is then echoed on page 4 ‘…The wi-fi doorbell chime works as an indoor digital chime and stores video clips on a microSD card (not included)’
However it seems the video is only been held on the 8GB memory on board the doorbell unit.
I have looked extensively over all the settings in the Eufy Security app and the Video Doorbell settings and cannot figure how to set the recording to be directed to the SD card on the chime.
Hi, when you inserted the SD card were you prompted to format it and does it show up as storage in the chime?
When you press the doorbell button does the chime make a sound? Just checking…
When you add the device / chime to the app which one did you choose?
Also was there a choice for Mini HomeBase?
HI JD164. Yes, I did get prompted to format the SD card, which I did. Yes, the chime does sound when the doorbell is pressed. Both the doorbell and the chime appear in the Eufy Security app. When I click on the settings of the chime it shows the card as 0.0/58.4 GB. The device is reporting itself in the app as a ‘MiniBase Chime’ and checking for a firmware update shows none needed/available.
Good luck zero phone support I always have to recharge the doorbell very unsatisfied with this product I hope you have better luck with it than I do
I think his hard wired if I read the post right…
Say, it says optional do to the gact that you can pair it to HB…
You actually don’t need the chip but say if you didn’t have a HB you can put a chip in it and store it for you as a stand alone unit…
I believe the app has about 16 gb, not sure if you can ckearit once it’s full… but with the chip I believe it’s 128 gB m, HB is ulimited as gar as putting storage cartridges in…
The option is just how you want to store you videos…
Did you install the SD card after you did the setup? Wondering because when you added the doorbell and chime to the app it could have been possible that the doorbell did not recognize you had an SD card in the chime and therefore not showing an option to record on to it?? So maybe removing the doorbell from the app and then adding the device back to the app will allow you to record onto the chime possibly…
I would do this first before doing what I have written below or contact eufy support through the app.
See if this option is available.
Open the settings for the doorbell and then go to Wi-Fi connection.
Do you see connect to HomeBase?
If so, tap on that and if it asks you to add a HomeBase, select MiniBase chime as the HomeBase.

Hi @glk23 although my first video doorbell, I kind of guessed that a battery would not be an ideal long term solution so I have purchased and powered it with a doorbell power supply I picked up off Amazon as I have a power socket that I can utilize.
Correct powered using a doorbell power supply as I have an accessible power socket.
HI @jd164 I did just that, i.e. deleted the doorbell, re added it to the security app. and making the chime now as a MiniBase Chime. I think the recordings are now held on both doorbell and chime which seems a little odd. I also seem to have lost all footage from before I removed and re-added the doorbell to the app. Not a big deal for me, but anyone else doing the same should be aware.
Ya it’s probably better that he uses thechime right, do to the added storage, price of a drive, and in the long run it frees up the HB from to add a device that might be better used with other added devices… Given you can only add so many devices…
Now the only down side I seeand, is he might not be able to add the doorbell in his automation feature which is tied together by HB… Now that I’m not sure of though. Because I’ve never had a 340 doorbell, and how the set up actually works…
Ok, @Carlos_Aguera give it a few days to record stuff, and then you can check the available SD card storage on the MiniBase Chime and also the 8 GB on the Doorbell to see if either one has decreased in storage available size.
Please let us know if it’s recording on to the chime.
Yes, when you remove a device from the app all previous recorded footage will be lost.
@Lad1091 I prefer not using a HomeBase. Yeah it does provide more features for your devices, but I don’t really have a need for them with my setup.
I suppose if I purchased some newer equipment that can utilize the cross camera tracking stitching between cameras I’d probably go for it, but the HB3 with its Wi-Fi range may hinder me as to where I can place my cameras.
You know wha5s cool about it, is if you have a pan&tilt it’ll go to the position you set it by the trigger, and if it pick up the subject it tracks them automatically…
Say the a camera goes off in your right side yard or backyard… the pan&tilt will turn to that side trying to detect someone…
And if it picks it up it starts tracking them… also triggering near by cameras or what you have set for… alarms and what not…
I got some of mine to trigger just the homebase… back yard and stuff so to wake me up… and you probably already know but you can set the on a time schedule… like 10 or 11pm to 5or am… or what have you away mode 24/7… inside the house…
I been hard away hacking at trying to figure out how use all the features to its fullest…
So that what I was saying, about the door bell… it’s one of the key cameras…
If somthing is triggered in the front of the house or garage or somthing it can trigger it to go off and start recording…
