Eufy E340 Floodlight Issues

I moved my Homebase nearer the camera so less interference and the signal strength improved. You can give that a try if you can… if not, then suggest you contact eufy tech team and see what solutions they might be able to me to offer…

Network experts say that the Router does not choose the frequency band for the device, in fact it is the device that chooses the frequency band.

So this means the router is not at fault but the device is. So I like to know why my Eufy floodlight cam chooses 5 Ghz over 2.4 Ghz? If Eufy chooses then there should be a setting in the Eufy Security App to choose which frequency band the device uses correct? Where is this setting? Or is Eufy going to force the customer to buy a tall ladder and risk falling all because to press the ‘sync’ button on it because the network SSID name change which is insane!

Yes a lot of new routers have that set to keep it simple. I prefer to have them separated.

I think / believe you may not have to if you only change the 5 GHz SSID network name, then the camera should switch/choose your 2.4 GHz automatically.

Try this test, go into your router’s settings and just disable / turn off the 5 GHz Wi-Fi leaving only the the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi on.
Then check your camera and see if it’s still online and also see if you still have them issues present.

The manufacturer company Eufy should have known this that people mount these devices outside their home (far away from router) so most likely to use 2.4 Ghz and they should have known that most customers leave their router settings by default that is no separate 2 SSID’s network names for 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz and they should put a leaflet warning in their boxes when shipping their products about this because these devices are mounted high up, safety risk to physically access required if a network name changes all because these 2 frequencies are separated for the sake of the eufy device to work properly because its a wireless device that relies on a good signal.

Unless eufy releases a firmware update and a app update to allow the user to select 2.4 GHz in its app for its devices to save all that headache above because of a network name change!

Is the Sync button on the device really a ‘WPS’ button?

Totally agree

Hi found this message on the internet:

> The standalone eufy cameras do not have to use WPS–there are full controls for Wifi settings in the eufy Security app for you to enter the password manually. You do have to use a sync button for models with a Homebase (a base station), but the Homebase usually connects to your network via ethernet and the button only pairs a satellite with the Homebase.

The Eufy device directly connects to my router not their Homebase. I don’t have Eufy homebase.

To confirm the Sync button on my Eufy device is just a ‘WPS’ button?

Also to confirm I only need to press the sync button on the Eufy device only if I have their homebase but not required for own router if the SSID name changes?

Hi another newbie question I have is when the cam is not connected to wi-fi, I understand it still records to local sd card however if camera detects anything while it is not connected to the wi-fi then will it send notification of detection activity to the owner’s phone once wi-fi connection is resumed with the cam for the earlier detection activity?

You could think of it as a WPS as it initiates the pairing process, but the SYNC button has other capabilities also.
Pressing and holding it down for 10 seconds will factory reset the device also can turn it on and off.
To sync an Eufy security device to your phone, you need to use the “eufySecurity” app, where you will be prompted to press the “Sync” button on the physical device itself, usually located on the back of the camera or sensor, while following the instructions on the app to pair it with your network; essentially, the app acts as the interface to control the sync process with the physical “Sync” button on your Eufy device.

You still need to use the Sync button and the app if your SSID changes… You need to tell the camera to use that new SSID.

What if the cam is already paired to the eufy security app, after this does the user still required to physically press the ‘sync’ button on the cam device if the SSID network name changes? Cant the user just input the wi-fi password for the new SSID to reconnect the cam to wi-fi without requiring to physically press the ‘sync’ button?

I thought wi-fi passwords are more secure than the ‘WPS’ button and the WPS button is an alternative to the wi-fi password.

If user is required to physically press the ‘Sync’ button on the cam device then what is the point of the app asking for the wi-fi password then :scream:?

Say JD, you better get a pin and paper, f is cat’s working you over…
Say newbie, I’ve never seen the app prompt that your talking about or I wasn’t paying attention…
But changing the password and stuff like that won’t have any affect on the performance of the camera or the sytem it works on… it’s just basic security procedure to help prevent fraud or hacks from entering your devices and personal info or what have you…
As far as I know, most of the newer cameras and which include floodlights just need at least 2 gigs to operate or giga hertz to function properly, I dont think it would have any effect on the device’s performance…
What I’d suggest is restart the camera from the cameras settings, it might just need to reboot, and no you dont have to resync if your just doing a restart…
Now ont he other hand, if you remove the device then ya… no ifs and or buts… if you remove the device, it’ll require a full recycling of the whole process, just as you were adding the camera for the first time… and no you will not have to go through the app to verify or check or change any passwords… once your account is set up , it’s set to go, unless as you related the necessity to change the information on your account… but again, that doesn’t have any baring on the performance of the app or the devices…
Now what I usually do is to try and calibrate my device after restarting the camera and do a few calibratio s on the pan and tilt setting… try calibrating it from 3 to 5 positions…
Since it’s a new device and home base or app, settings… which ever, it will probably take a bit for it to set in to kick in to optimum operation, it shouldn’t take long though… if it persist then you probably have a connection issue or your wifi is acting up wich happens from time to time… also the weather has its own factor. Try operating it in optimal weather conditions or the best possible conditions you can get, and see how it finctions then… It might just be the weather, as stated, the devices have their optimal temp operation and that m8ght be whats affecting the performance of the device…
If it’s outside mounted up high, it’s probably takimg a beating… As we’re in full weather affect at the mo.ent I’m most parts of the world…

You still need to press the sync button to initiate the Wi-Fi pairing process. The cam needs to know what SSID to use.
You can’t just enter a new password without using the sync button.

Passwords are more secure, the WPS button is just a quick way to connect devices.
The device needs to be at least 6 ft near the Wi-Fi router and then you need to press both WPS buttons at the same time.

Don’t confuse the SYNC button as a WPS.

But I hear you and understand what you’re saying, about the Sync button…
Yeah it’s already connected to the app, so I shouldn’t need to use the sync button again if I just want to change Wi-Fi settings for that camera, would have been much simpler/easier just to do it within the app only.

Sorry I meant same old wi-fi password but a different SSID network name. Does the ‘Sync’ button on cam needs to be pressed?

Also please confirm does the ‘Sync’ button still needs to be pressed after the cam device has already been added to the Eufy Secrity app meaning 1st time setup already completed.

Lol… maybe you should but a later, next time you won’t have to call an electrician…
Is it an S340 pan&tilt…   Not trying to put em down, that’s what I have… if so, strap yourself in… read the post on hear about the charging issues… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Good luck there pretty dam goid cameras once you get them all squared away…
You probably should get a latter though, just saying… Good luck…

Yes, you still need to press the Sync button to initiate the Wi-Fi pairing process, as far as I know… It needs to know what SSID network name to use so that it can then access that network and use the password to establish a link.

I’ll try to explain, this is how my camera is…
My home has two separate 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi SSID Network names that uses the same password

My camera will only connect to one of those 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks, that that’s because I told the camera which SSID network name to use.
If I want to have my camera use the other network name, then I would need to change the cameras Wi-Fi setting in the app and also press the Sync button on the camera to initiate the process of having it used the other network SSID name and enter its password (password which is the same)

Once the device is added to the app there should be no need to use the SYNC button again, but if you remove the device from the app & if the device is malfunctioning you will need to use it.

Alright, after started this thread a long time ago I think I got the answer finally :grinning:

So once device is added to the app then the ‘Sync’ button does not need to be pressed on the device if the SSID network name changes.

Thanks!
