Hard Drive Sound

Hi All -
My S380 home base started making a non-stop whirling sound (after about 1 year of use.) I tried to reboot; that resolves it for a moment, but then it starts whirling again. I have two camera connected and the hard drive has over 90% available storage.
Thanks for any advice you can give me -

There is a cooling fan in the home base maybe it’s that.try unplugging it and blow some canned air through it around the vents maybe something got in there. Or if it’s a HHD type hard drive they make a little noise but maybe it’s getting old and getting louder and might need to be replaced.

Hey there!
I saw your post about the non-stop whirling sound on your S380 HomeBase. Ugh, that sounds super annoying! I actually have the same HomeBase setup with a couple of cameras myself, so I can definitely relate.
It’s interesting that a reboot only temporarily fixes it. That makes me think it might not be a completely stuck fan, but something else causing it to spin up constantly.
Here are a couple of things I’d personally try (and have tried in the past with other tech making weird noises!):

  • Check the Ventilation: Make sure the HomeBase has good airflow around it. Sometimes if it’s tucked away in a tight spot, it can overheat slightly, causing the fan to run more than usual. Just ensure the vents aren’t blocked.
  • Software/Firmware: Even though you rebooted, it might be worth double-checking if your HomeBase and cameras have the latest firmware. Sometimes updates address little bugs that could indirectly cause this kind of behavior. You can usually check this in the eufy Security app.
  • Activity Detection Settings: This might be a long shot, but are your activity detection settings particularly sensitive? If the cameras are constantly triggering recordings (even minor things), maybe the HomeBase is working overtime processing and the fan is kicking in more frequently. You mentioned plenty of storage, so it’s likely not a full drive issue, but just something to consider.
If none of those simple things work, it might unfortunately indicate a potential hardware issue with the fan itself. Since it’s been about a year, you might still be under warranty. It could be worth reaching out to eufy support directly if the problem persists after trying these steps. They’re usually pretty helpful.
Let me know if any of this helps, or if you find a different solution! Always good to share these things.

Take out the hard drive if the noise goes away it’s just the HDD and you could change it to a SSD if it bothers you
