Homebase 3 question

Ok, I am confused again. I added in a Seagate 1tb hard drive and I seem to recall after starting it formatted the hard drive. I cannot find any indication that the homebase 3 recognizes it?

Update: This is weird. 5 minutes after posting this I went to check one of my E30 cameras and it would not connect. I happened to look at the homebase 3 and the light was red and soon it went back to blue. So I go back to the app and it shows i have 1tb of space rather than what it showed before of what looked like 16gb. Wish I could attach pics i took. Strange doings!
Every so often in events it will show +99 for both of my cameras then disappear.

You can attach a photo. Take screenshot it should go to your phone photos then when you tap on comment under your post tap on what looks like a picture and it will ask if you what it from your photo library then pick picture then done and it will take a couple seconds but it will upload it.

The before and after.

Strange

Today when I opened the app it showed the +99 events on both cameras even though I checked them a few hours earlier.

That does seem strange. I wonder if it has something to do with the formatting process.

I have had it running a few months now and also have maybe 12 events a day on each camera which I have not erased any yet.

Here I go again. Guess I have to contact Eufy. The homebase 3 again reverted to showing a 16gb storage?

Try rebooting everything starting with the modem you homebase is connected to… Then reboot your homebase. Check for any new updates for your homebase and cameras. Update if needed.
Check if your app needs to be updated as well… If you still have problems with the hard drive, try formatting again.

Eufy had me pull the SSD drive out and re-insert it but storage again reverted back to the internal storage. The SSD drive was previously in another device since 2023 and worked just fine. Anyway I took the drive out again to get the serial number off the drive in case of a warranty replacement and after awhile I reinstalled the drive and it shows the 1tb storage. So it may come down to a replacement homebase 3. I’ll play with it for awhile but if goes out again, I’ll seek a warranty.

So here’s another question. With my 1tb ssd not showing up all the time in storage, then what, nothing is written to the ssd until the internal 16gb storage is full?

It works the other way around, it records first to the SSD, when that gets full, (which would take a lot of recordings), then it would record to the 16 GB internal storage.

Do you have another drive which you can test to see if the HB3 does the same thing?

Perhaps the drive you have now, ( I know you said you’ve had it for 2yrs and hasn’t given you any problems ) prior to installing it in the HB3.
It may not like the HB3’s environment, thinking maybe heat is an issue, causing the drive to fail?

Well, when the HB3 didn’t recognize my Samsung EVO 1tb SSD my 200+ recorded events were still there. And when it did recognize the SSD the videos were there.
The SSD was added after about a month after I got the HB3. Perhaps some videos are on the internal one and others on the SSD?

SSDs are notorious for shorter life spans than HDs, I put a 2 TB PNY in mine. It appeared to install as soon as I set it up, later I found that I did need to format it. I haven’t looked at the storage status in a few days, hoping it’s still there.

Yeah, that’s definitely possible… to find that out you would need to remove the hard drive and see what percentage is used for the onboard storage, also see if you’re able to see any recorded footage without the hard drive installed.
Before the HB3 received a firmware update,
You were able to see the percentage of both, local storage and the hard drive.

Well today I bumped the HB3 and the storage reverted back to the internal storage of 16gb. I pulled the Samsung SSD drive out and rebooted and went back to previous videos and they were not there 100%. Some days had no videos where the should have been and other days seemed to be intact. I am leaning towards a faulty HB3 since the SSD worked flawlessly in another device.

I had weird issues somewhat similar with my homebase around the same time as you did. At one point I kept getting a message that I needed to format my hd drive that had already been in use for several weeks. I did nothing. Waited. Other issues too. But now it seems to have resolved. I am convinced eufy pushed some sort of update to the system (no signs or indications, of course) that had a bug, then eventually pushed another to fix the first. Either that or they got hacked or had some sort of creepy backdoor action going on. Really hate that.
